Abstract

Regarding to development of sports among human being all around the world, investigating its impacts on behavior and moral orientations of the athletes are very important. The present study aimed to investigate the individual and team sports elite athletes’ moral orientation toward sportsmanship regard to Varity of age and academic levels.
The present study was a descriptive- Survey and an applied study. For this purpose 84 elite athletes from individual sports and 78 elite athletes from team sports completed the MSOS inventory questionnaire. Mann-whitney u test, Spearman's rank correlation and Kruskal–Wallis test were used to analysis the data.
The results stated that athletes involved in individual sports showed higher levels of sportsmanship in comparison to those who involved in team sports. Furthermore, there was a significant difference of sportsmanship level between physical education and other major’s students. The athletic group aged 18-20 year-old had higher sportsmanship level in comparison to groups aged 21-23 and 24-27 year-old.
According to the results, it is recommended to emphasis more on moral concepts in physical education courses. Especially educators and trainers focus on moral concepts and issues in sport more.
