Abstract
Strategic thinking has emerged as one of the vital elements in the development and management of various sectors, including sports. This process includes formulating long-term goals and identifying the necessary steps to achieve these goals. This research aims to formulate a strategic plan for the development of Iraqi wrestling by applying the principles of strategic thinking. Through a comprehensive SWOT analysis, the study identified 13 strengths, 11 weaknesses, 12 opportunities, and 13 threats shaping the strategic environment of Iraqi wrestling. The research sample included 50 experts, university professors, coaches, and key stakeholders in Iraqi wrestling. Key strengths include the sport's historical significance and access to experienced coaches, while critical weaknesses involve limited financial resources and inadequate training facilities. Externally, the growing global interest in traditional sports presents a unique opportunity for Iraqi wrestling to gain international attention, although political instability remains a significant threat. The study places Iraqi wrestling within a service maintenance and development environment, indicating the need for balanced strategies to enhance strengths and address weaknesses. The primary strategies proposed include establishing a National Wrestling Academy, developing advanced training facilities, and launching a nationwide campaign to promote the sport. These strategies are designed to support long-term growth and ensure competitive success. The findings underscore the importance of strategic planning in navigating the complexities of sports development in Iraq, offering practical insights for policymakers and stakeholders.
