Purpose: This study aimed to identify and map the thematic network of drivers for the international success of Iraq’s Olympic sports federations. By adopting a systemic approach, this research sought to identify the factors influencing the promotion of championship sports in this country and to provide a practical model for improving the performance of these federations.

Methodology: The research was applied in purpose and qualitative in nature, conducted using the “thematic analysis” method. The statistical population consisted of academic experts in sports management and executive managers of Iraqi sports organizations. Seventeen participants were selected via purposive (judgmental) sampling until theoretical saturation was reached, and semi-structured interviews were conducted. Data analysis was performed using thematic analysis techniques and coding the interview transcripts.

Findings: The data analysis led to the identification of 103 primary codes, 25 sub-themes, and 8 main themes. Based on the extracted thematic network, the drivers of international success were organized into a systemic structure including the macro environment, governance and management of federations, infrastructure, resources, technical and developmental processes, and outcomes. The key drivers identified include international interactions, infrastructure and hosting development, sports governance, revenue generation and resource acquisition, scientific talent identification, sports media and communication, research and innovation, and support for elite athletes.

Conclusion: The findings indicate that the international success of Iraq’s Olympic federations is a multidimensional phenomenon influenced by the synergistic interaction of structural, managerial, and contextual factors. It is concluded that the extracted thematic network can be utilized as a strategic framework for macro-policymaking, prioritizing development programs, and enhancing the international performance level of the mentioned federations.
