The purpose of this study was to identify the barriers to women's economic empowerment in sport in Iran. Women's economic empowerment in sport was defined as the availability of opportunities for women to access employment, income, resources, and sport-related economic activities, as well as their ability to participate in economic decision-making within the sport sector. The study was applied in terms of purpose and qualitative in terms of methodology, with a thematic analysis approach. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed based on the six-phase thematic analysis framework developed by Braun and Clarke (2006). The participants included entrepreneurs, sport economy activists, and sport science experts who were selected through purposive sampling. Interviews continued until theoretical sufficiency was achieved, meaning that the collected data were considered sufficient for developing and explaining the concepts and categories of the study, resulting in a total of 25 participants (N = 25). To enhance the credibility of the findings, expert perspectives were incorporated. In addition, the reliability of the coding process was assessed, with an agreement rate of 89.7% between the two coders. The findings indicated that 105 initial codes were extracted from the interview data and, following their consolidation and analysis, were organized into 23 subthemes and six main themes: structural barriers, technological barriers, economic barriers, sociocultural barriers, political barriers, and regulatory barriers. The findings showed that these barriers operate at multiple levels and constrain women's access to and utilization of economic opportunities and resources related to sport. The findings further indicate that women's economic empowerment in sport requires simultaneous attention to these different levels. Accordingly, reforming policy and regulatory mechanisms, facilitating women's access to financial and technological resources, and strengthening the sociocultural conditions for women's economic participation in sport are recommended.
