[English]

Omentin is an adipokine that is primarily secreted from visceral adipose tissue and its metabolic function is enhancement of insulin with stimulated glucose transport. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of eight weeks of moderate intensity interval training on omentin levels and insulin resistance index in obese girls. 18 female obese students (12-14 years old, BMI≥30) were voluntarily selected and randomly divided into experimental (n=9) and control (n=9) group. The training group performed 8 weeks of interval training for 8 weeks, 3 sessions each week, 20 minutes every session with 70-75% of target heart rate. Blood samples were collected 24 hours before the first training session and 48 hours after the last training session and after 12 hours of fasting. Data were analyzed by covariance analysis and significant level (P<0.05). The results showed a significant increase in the omentin in the experimental group compared with the control group and a significant increase in the maximum oxygen consumption and a significant reduction in weight and body mass index (P<0.05). Hence, moderate intensity interval training can be used as a non-pharmacological method that reduces weight and increases the maximum oxygen consumption in adolescent girls.
